Louis XIII
Louis XIII (1601 - 1643) was King of France and Navarre from 1610 to his death. He was a son of Henry IV and Marie de' Medici. The early part of his reign was dominated by his mother. He struggled to escape her influence but then relied on advisors and ministers to rule. From 1624 to 1643, Louis de facto prime minister was Cardinal Richelieu.

Louis XIII was married to Anne of Austria. They were parents to two sons, most prominently Louis XIV. He never had mistresses but had a number of male favorites, probably lovers. Louis, Anne and Richelieu appeared prominently in "Three Musketeers"(1844) and make frequent appearances in fiction, in sequels, adaptations and parodies of the work.
