Onika Tanya Maraj was born on 8 December 1982 in Saint James, a district of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. She grew up, however, in Jaimaica, Queens, New York. She has been active as a rapper since 2004. As Nicki Minaj, her breakthrough album was 2010's Pink Friday, with singles like "Your Love," "Super Bass,"and "Massive Attack." The album has gone octuple-platinum. A follow up album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded was released in April, 2012. A third studio album is slated for release later in 2014. She has had notable rivalries with both Mariah Carey and Lil' Kim.
