Brief History
General Robert E. Lee was a career military officer who is best known for having commanded the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia in the American Civil War. It has been said that President Lincoln offered Lee the chance to lead the Union Army in the Civil War, but that Lee declined so he could lead the Southern forces.
