Little is known about the Wretch's history or powers. He protects the residents of Glass City from all manner of threats, including supernatural entities, aliens and even clowns. The Wretch never speaks, and his ill-defined powers appear to be whatever he needs to defeat his current foe.

In the Wretch's early appearances he was known as "The Creep" and he wore many belts. He also had two large hoses attached to his body which he could use to spray mysterious liquids and gases.

Later the hoses and armored look of his costume disappeared and he added white bandages to his arms and neck. In both of his looks he is always seen in silhouette.
