Jan Vathek is a Master of the Night who chose Africa as his territory and he spent the majority of his life in North Africa. In ancient Egypt Vathek was revered as a god, in the 7th century he was a powerful Arabic emir who conquered many countries. He then covered the same position years later, in the 16th century at the command of the Barbary Pirates. Nowadays he moved to Southern Africa, fomenting civil wars and running an oil company in Angola and a mining industry which extracts diamonds in Namibia. In a way or another, he always oppresses humans, as a game and to sustain his expensive lifestyle. Despite that, he has a glimpse of humanity, like his friendship with a German explorer and the love who seemed to feel towards his Egyptian queen and an English noble woman he vampirized over the centuries.
