Creation
In 1984, Stephen Hillenburg conceived the characters while teaching and studying marine biology. He became interested in animation and wrote a comic that would later evolve into SpongeBob SquarePants. Sandy is voiced by Carolyn Lawrence and she is a a squirrel from the state of Texas.
Origin
Sandy lives in Bikini Bottom, where she is friends with SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star. She knows karate and is very strong. She wears a suit that almost looks like an astronaut's suit so she can breathe underwater. In the first season, you could not see Sandy's tail, but in the following seasons it comes out of her suit. In a 2014 interview, Stephen Hillenburg stated that his inclusion of Sandy as a character was based on wanting "a strong female character that could be a friend to SpongeBob but not a love interest."
