History

An illegal act in several countries and states. The depiction of the act is more prevalent in European comics, specifically from France and Italy. In the western comics the act is usually used for shock value and to show the degeneracy of certain characters.

The accusation of bestiality is often used by characters to insult someone, or to express that something is so disgusting to them that they rather lay with animals.

Censorship

Some countries have stricter laws about the bestiality art, and have censored the original stories by cutting the offending panels or altering them in a strategic way. One example is the translated Golden Ass stories, where the chat bubbles have been moved over the depiction of penetration.

On the flip side, in the Japanese art, the bestiality acts are seen as a way to avoid the obscenity censoring law, as animal members are not required to be censored, therefore the act is not seen as problematic as in the west.
