Overview

Costumers primarily portray anime, comic book, video game and movie characters. Most often, costumes are worn to conventions. The goal of cosplay is perceptual translation. The creator attempts to become a character much as a stage actor becomes a role. Different cosplayers have different approaches to achieving the role. Many make their own costumes through crafting, while others purchase pre-made apparel from stores, and some commission a seamstress to create it for them. The key is in the details. Important componants of the cosplay costume are the costume itself, wig, shoes, make-up, weapons, and any extra accessories. When cosplaying it is important to do reasearch about the character and know their history and current events. The more work put into the role, the greater the cosplay experience will be.
