Overview

The term "pulp fiction" originated from the pulp paper that was used between the covers. Although the paper used was cheap the covers featured where very ornate. The plots where often simple and ranged from horror to romance.

History

These magazines where often accredited with pioneering the science fiction and detective genres. Because of the low rates they paid their writers, publishers where able to print several stories in one issue and charge as little as ten cents each. These low prices made them very popular with the general public and could sell as many as a million copies.
