Moving on from the Pilot

A recent trend in comics is for canceled television shows to continue as a canonical and non-canonical comic book. When a television show ends typically the related product sales tend to fall. There are four major television universes that continued on this way. There is the Buffy Universe, Charmed Universe, Smallville Universe, and Star Trek Universe.

The Star Trek Universe alone had six series counting the cartoon show that continued on in comic form after the series was cancelled. There were so many series that comics were being produced using some characters from canceled shows and continuing on their stories while being produced simultaneously this other programs.

Examples include:

  • Buffy Season 8
  • Angel: After the Fall
  • Charmed Season 9
  • Star Trek: Early Voyages takes place after the original pilot episode
  • Farscape
  • Batman: Beyond
  • Serenity
  • Smallville takes place six month after the finale episode of the TV series
