The Marvel and the DC Universe had merged into an Amalgam of both Universes. A man called Access alone had the key to separate them and to keep the two universes separate.

Access returns perplexed by unexplainable crossings. His powers give him a sort of extra sense about these crossings and the potential for the Amalgam reality to re-occur. Venom mysteriously arrives in Metropolis from Marvel Comics' New York! He and Superman fight. Access rescues Caitlin Fitzgerald and then tracks down Spider-Man to help The Man of Steel subdue Venom. Still confused, he returns the webslinger and Eddie Brock to their rightful reality.
