This issue is significant for the meeting of Hawkman with the creative talents of Joe Kubert. Having joined DC in 1943 and worked on the 7 Soldiers of Victory in Leading Comics, and also having worked on Action Comics and Sensation Comics, Kubert turned to Hawkman in this issues 9-page story, "The Painter and the $100,000." Written by Gardner Fox, this issue marked the start of a long and fruitful run between illustrator and character. Although Kubert had tackled the Winged Wonder before in 1944's The Big All American Comic Book and as a member of the Justice Society in All Star Comics, it was his work on Hawkman in Flash comics that became one of DC's signature outputs of the Golden Age.
