Writer Robert Kanigher and artist Joe Kubert presented a female twist on Robert Louis Stevenson's Jekyll and Hyde with the introduction of the Thorn who made her debut in this issue's twelve-page Flash story. The Thorn was the villainous alter ego of the harmless Rose Canton, who gained superpowers to match her killer alternate personality when she transformed into the Thorn. Jay Garrick used his wits and super speed to survive his encounter with the Thorn, but she returned in Flash Comics# 96 (June 1948). The Thorn then entered a decades-long hibernation before being revived in the 1970s.
