Oliver Queen, the new president of Horton Chemical, is lost in thought. Queen's secretary, one Mrs. Sangster, draws Queen out of his reverie, but only for a moment. Queen's thoughts return to the recent death of Abigail Horton. Queen had been present at the reading of Horton's will. Shockingly, Queen inherited millions of dollars, along with Horton's company. Horton's family were outraged. Shortly thereafter, an arsonist set fire to Queen's home. When Queen attempted to interrogate the arsonist, as the Green Arrow, the arsonist, himself, was incinerated. After checking his car for explosives, Queen returns home.

Queen fashions some new high-tech arrowheads for his quiver. One such arrowhead scans Queen's phone for taps. Dinah Laurel Lance, the Black Canary, offers Queen help on the case. Queen turns her down, preferring to solo on the investigation. Queen, as the Green Arrow, breaks into the Star City County Coroner's Office. The Green Arrow learns Horton's cause of death...asphyxiation...and that her wedding band was found in the palm of her hand, not worn on her finger. The Green Arrow s interrupted by a security guard. The Green Arrow harmlessly incapacitates the guard, and makes good his escape. The next morning, the Green Arrow, as Queen, rails against his computer terminal, drawing the attention of his secretary.

Queen meets with Horton's brother, Maxwell Stein. To gauge Stein's reaction, Queen reveals that he knows the identity of Horton's murderer. Queen runs the same ruse on Horton's daughter, Cynthia, and Horton's son, Theodore, Junior. The executor of Horton's will, one Mister Thorndyke, orders Queen to cease making his wild allegations of foul play, in Horton's death, to Horton's family. Queen agrees, much to the dismay of Deidre Wagner, Horton's lawyer. A shadowy figure orders Queen's murder. At a social gathering, given by Cynthia, and her husband, Lord Gerrold Sinclair, Queen is the target of an assassination attempt. Queen confronts his would-be killer, as the Green Arrow.

The failed assassin is revealed to be Horton's son, Theodore, Junior. Before the Green Arrow can question Theodore, Junior, they are attacked by Count Vertigo. Under the effects of Count Vertigo's power, Theodore, Junior falls to his death. Under the effects of Count Vertigo's powers, the Green Arrow is incapable of hitting the Count. The Green Arrow launches a Feedback Arrow, at Count Vertigo, that homes in on the technology embedded in Count Vertigo's temple, rendering the Count unconscious. Investigating Thoedore, Junior's corpse, the Green Arrow sees that Theodore, Junior has drawn a hexagon in the sand. A shape not unlike Horton's wedding band.
