The last chapter in the "Ghosts of Mars" storyline finds J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter, destroyed from within by his malevolent brother's memory! Luckily his new family — the JLA— and his old Martian family have ways to help him.

J'onn J'onzz, manipulated by the aspect of self left behind by Malefic in J'onn's psyche from the Martian rite of G'amal'khul, attacks Aquaman and eventually the entire JLA. He realizes these are aspects controlled by Malefic, and turns them agains Malefic's aspect. After defeating Malefic, J'onn retreats into his mind. Zatanna is called in and she allows Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman to enter his mind. Batman convinces him with a Zen parable to return to reality.
