Jonah Hex answers a telegram from Nat Ashin, a newspaper publisher in Lawrenceville, Kansas who lost his arm saving Hex at the battle of Vicksburg. When he arrives in town he rescues Ashin from the fire that has consumed his print shop. Ashin tells Hex that he's been targeted by the Black Hat Gang for what he's published about them in the paper.
