Recalling his recent adventures, J'onn begins to fear that his absorption of Earth mass has tainted his soul as a Martian. Still bearing four arms, J'onn answers a distress call from Gypsy, who he reveres as the daughter of his heart. Gypsy is under attack in Detroit by the reanimated bodies of their dead friends Vibe, Ice, Steel, and Crimson Fox. When Gypsy is killed, J'onn takes her body and begs the god Hronmeer to restore her life.
