Superman: The Odyssey is the story of Clark Kent before he became Superman which portrays his personal odyssey (journey) in a foreign land in an attempt to understand more about himself.
The story beings with Superman fighting against an un-named organization because Superman has discovered they plan to release anthrax into Metropolis subway station. After a brief battle with the guards who are armed with laser guns and few robots Superman succeeds in destroying the un-named organization.
After having defeated the organization Superman‘s attention is caught by a news telecast of the death of Terri Chun, which takes Superman into flashback of how he met Terri Chun.
In the flashback, we see Clark Kent forced to use his powers to protect a woman trapped under a car accident, however, instead of help from the crowd all he gets is a reaction of sheer terror. The next day Superman is confronted by Terri Chun, who’s a reporter who has taken few pictures of Clark Kent lifting the car in the scene of the accident. They have coffee and unbeknown to her, Clark Kent destroys the film using X-Ray vision. Hours later, she offered a place to stay to Clark and when they where at her place, suddenly they were attacked by few Chinese commandos. Seeing bullets simply bounce off Clark’s body, leads them to believe there is something wrong with their ammunition and they retreat. When asked Terri explains Chinese commando attacked them because her father is the Rhana Bhutra, highest religious figure in their country, and that the commandos intended to kidnap her to get to him.
After the brief conversation Clark and Terri charter a plane to fly Terri home, when they are attacked mid-air. The plane explodes killing the pilot but Terri is saved by Clark who flies her home. They cross with Bruce Wayne on their way. Clark is then introduced to Terri’s father and Clark expresses his desire to live in Terri’s place for a while to learn their culture. The father humbly accepts. The next morning Clark and Terri’s father have a brief discussion about Clark’s superhuman powers and the conversation is interrupted when Clark flies away to save Terri from an avalanche. Terri after being saved kisses Clark and they fall in love.
Clark is thinking and meditating when sees that the chinese army is coming to the town in front of the terri´s palace, in Bhutan. Clark looks for Terri and then flies her to a desert where we see Terri’s father being killed by the Chinese Armies. This angers Clark who in turn attacks the armies in super speed, armies on the other hand believing it was the wrath of the god for killing Rhana Bhutra retreat. The death of her father now makes Terri the Rhana Bhutra. However being the Rhana Bhutra would mean she has duty with her people and can be together with Clark no longer, Clark bids goodbye with a sad heart, we clearly see tears in his eyes just after Terri whispers “Your secrets will be safe with me”.
The flashback ends with Superman stating: for many years she’d led her people even with the threats from the People’s Republic always hanging over them. Her father would be proud. I never saw her again until now”. After this we see a glimpse of Terri’s funeral and the story ends.
