Synopsis

Baltimore’s investigations come to a halt when the dead of Estonia rise from their graves and demons rip from their corpses—the children of the Red King’s witch! The story moves beyond the novel for the first time!

Plot Summary

February 1920, Estonia: Henry Baltimore, Harish, Sofia Valk and Paavo the undertaker have made it to the graveyard to bury their friend Quigley, when they find themselves surrounded by a horde of zombie. Their bullets and blades are doing some damage but when Jatu, the Witch of Harju, shows up and makes it rain blood the group know they will be overwhelmed soon.

Henry makes a decision to sperate from the group and chases after the witch in an attempt to end her power over the dead. He tracks her to her cave and their the pair fight. She gets a couple of good hits on the monster hunter, but when Henry destroys her effigy of the Red King, the witch flees.

Henry kills the witch and the blood rain stops and the last of zombies turn to dust. Then upon his return the group Henry learns that Paavo was killed. They then bury Quigley and Paavo knowing that now they would not come back as undead monsters.

Back at Harju, Henry confronts some of the women and informs them that he knows they are witches but they are not evil like Jatu and that is why he is leaving them alive. Then before being chased from town, for being witches themselves, Harish, Henry and Thomas welcome Sofia to the group.
