It is revealed that time-traveler Alex Kirk was sent into the future, but somehow never returned. Andrew Jensen was the second time traveler. Vanguard watches Jensen's return from his orbiting ship and sees Berzerker emerge from the craft with the injured Andrew Jensen. Vanguard, believing Berzerker to be an enemy, attacks him. Eventually, Alex Kirk arrives from the future, and does battle with both berzerker and Vanguard. Berzerker pilots Kirk's time machine back into the future rather than letting it explode in the present. Kirk is re-united with his family.
