The Spider-Woman takes down the Desmond Gang. Rupert M. Dockery takes over the Los Angeles Courier. Two Courier reporters, Myers and Fredericks, fear that Dockery will not maintain the Courier's journalistic integrity. Rupert assures them that that is not the case, then has the reporters fired. Outside the Courier building, Dockery is assailed by two thugs. The Spider-Woman intervenes, and prevents Dockery from being abducted. In the Spider-Woman, Dockery sees a way to increase the Courier's sales and circulation.

The Spider-Woman's crime-fighting partner, Scotty McDowell, is none too thrilled with the newfound publicity surrounding the Spider-Woman's exploits. Across the country, Spider-Man, too, wonders what greater media exposure will mean for the Spider-Woman. With the revelation of the Spider-Woman's existence, Dockery now must face competition from the other newspapers in town, for stories featuring her. Dockery comes up with a plan to keep the Spider-Woman exclusive to the Courier.

Dockery meets with an underworld lowlife, called Brute Bashby. Dockery gets Bashby to agree to contact the Courier, with details regarding future crimes, so that the Courier can be on the scene when they occur. Dockery also outfits Bashby with the gear, and costume, of a new super-villain, the Grinder. In the next morning's edition of the Los Angles Courier, the Grinder publicly challenges the Spider-Woman to confront him. McDowell, and the Spider-Woman, work out the Grinder's most likely target.

The Grinder breaks into the lavish penthouse suite of Arnolde Windersmith. The Grinder breaks into Windersmith's safe. The Spider-Woman appears, and attacks the Grinder. Her bio-venom burst is blocked by the Grinder's spinning rotary blades. The Grinder flees the scene of the crime, with the Spider-Woman in hot pursuit. The Spider-Woman notices that the Courier already has a news crew set up, outside Windersmith's penthouse.

The Grinder severs one of the Spider-Woman's glider wings, causing her to fall. The Spider-Woman breaks her fall, with her acrobatic acumen, coupled with her enhanced strength. Using the same blade that severed her glider wing, the Spider-Woman severs the Grinder's spinning rotary blade, causing him to fall from the sky. After catching the Grinder, the Spider-Woman turns him over to the police. Dockery is disappointed that the Grinder only provided him with one day's worth of news. Dockery makes plans to provide a better story for the Spider-Woman's adventures.
