While meeting at Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, the Defenders are attacked by Egghead's Emissaries of Evil!

While the Defenders are sitting around Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum, Nighthawk suddenly catches on fire. They rush outside to see what did it to him, and find Solarr, in a new giant, burning form.

He demands the Star of Capistan, which the Defenders have never heard of, and attacks, along with his fellow Emmisary of Evil, the Rhino. During the battle, they discover that Solarr was just creating a fire illusion of a giant, and he is really the same as usual. The villains realize that the Defenders don't have the Star and teleport away to Egghead's base--an ex-NASA space station.

Egghead punishes them for failing. He can't believe that the Defenders don't have the Star, a great weapon he thinks he tracked to Strange.

The Defenders wonder where Red Guardian has gone; perhaps it is related to the fact that she is a visitor in the US from the Soviet Union. Strange gets a message from an old friend, Omar Karindu, and goes off to meet him.

Karindu is the one who actually has the Star. He asked Strange to come help them since its powers are getting out of control, but Strange himself is taken over by it's powers.

Meanwhile, the other Defenders are attacked by another of Egghead's minions, the Cobalt Man. They quickly knock him down, but he starts glowing as if he is going to explode.
