The beginning of the end. The mystery surrounding the White Event is finally revealed. What does the Star Brand have to do with it, and what unbelievable mistake does Kenneth Connell make that causes the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent people?

Duck visits some old friends to better make sense of her life and get some support for the fact that Ken isn't supportive of the fact that she's having their baby.

Ken, meanwhile, visits a comic convention where John Byrne and Howard Mackie are featured. They explain to him that his new costume doesn't really work very well to hide his identity, and that most things in comics only work because of the reader's suspension of disbelief--in the real world, they wouldn't work.

The Old Man, more powerful than before, shows up at the con, and attacks Ken. Ken attacks back without thinking, and they two trade massive energy blasts among the crowded convention floor. The Old Man goes on a tirade about how lame and manipulatable Ken is, and how he's wasting the potential of the Brand.

A massive blasts erupts, destroying the entire building and killing everyone inside, including Bobby and Cassie, who were just coming in to try to blackmail Ken.

Myron watches the news of the scene on TV. Ken suddenly shows up, in the same "shriveled rubbery alien form" the Old Man sometimes used. He passes out, and awakens in his normal form.

Ken tells Myron what the Old Mna told him during the battle--that he is actually a 500-year-old Dutch prince who gained the power of the Brand during an accident. Over time he tired of the Brand and tried to put it on other things, but it destroyed them and left him with 10% of the power--which was infinite. He eventually put it on an asteroid, which exploded and caused the White Event, which gave many paranormals their powers a short time ago. Then he gave the power to Ken.

At the end of the battle at the comic con, Ken explains, the Old Man merged with Ken, including his memories.

Myron is convinced that Ken needs to get rid of the power. He wants him to fly to the other side of the moon and put his power in a dumbbell, and use the remaining 10% of his power to restrain the explosion that will result.

Ken agrees and flies 10 miles high. He decides not to go to space in case he can't come back with his newly-lessened power level. He puts the Brand into the dumbbell.

An enormous explosion blasts out in a sphere around him, destroying all of Pittsburgh.
