Possessed by Candra, Cyclops attacks Storm in her quarters!
Synopsis
Out for a night stroll, Storm senses that she is not alone. Cyclops bursts from the shadows and attacks. During the fight, Cyclops refers to Storm as "Daughter of the King of Thieves," which alerts Storm that her friend has been co-opted by her old enemy Candra. Upon subduing Cyclops, Storm explains that Candra is after a gem; one Storm stole long ago as a child in Egypt that contains Candra's heart. Cyclops wants the team to help, but Storm feels that this is a mission of honor and slips away without Cyclops knowing.
In Washington, D.C., Jean tries to lighten up Cannonball. He's getting pretty existential after Graydon Creed's assassination.
Storm arrives at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to confront Candra in the reconstructed Temple of Dendur. Storm threatens to destroy the gem - and Candra's play on immortality - but Candra has a hostage: Karima. Further, Candra reveals that she's been working with another of Storm's old friends, Jamil. He has been manipulated and now assists Candra with his telepathic powers.
Jamil begins to play with Storm's mind by mentally taking her into T'Challa's arms in Africa. Storm lashes out and sees the two fall, but this was another trick, as Jamil made her think she saw him fall when he was really taking the gem from her. As a final trick, Jamil relates that he has been aided by the Shadow King, who now glories in possessing the ageless energies of an External.
Note: Jamil, Black Panther, and the Shadow King do not appear in this issue but are manifestations of the mutant Karima.
