The Rainbow Bridge is most often guarded by the far-seeing god Heimdall. When Thor travels to Asgard, he usually arrives at Bifrost, before entering the city itself.
It was shattered once, when Odin took Asgard to another dimension, so that Mangog would not be able to destroy both Asgard and Earth.
