Origin

The City of Mutants is the underground lair of the Cult of Mesmero. It is hidden in an undisclosed dessert in the US. The city has the capability to rise to the surface and is advanced far beyond human technology. Mesmero's cult are followers of Magneto and use the technologies in the city to awaken latent mutant abilities.

Creation

The City of Mutants was created by Arnold Drake and Jim Steranko.

Major Story Arc

Lorna Dane and Iceman were kidnapped by Mesmero's cult and taken to The City of Mutants. The cult were aware Lorna was Magneto's daughter and wanted to awaken her latent mutant powers so she could join her father in his quest to rule mankind. The X-Men came to rescue the pair but Lorna's abilities were already activated. Lorna chose to aid the X-Men in their battle against the cult but chose to stay with her father once he was defeated.
