Corellia is one of the five inhabited planets of the Corell system. Mysterious Celestials are thought to have created the Corellian system from other planets, using a combo of buried repulsors and the hyperspace engine Centerpoint Station. From their parent star, the inhabited worlds came into place first Corellia, then Drall, then the twin worlds of Talus and Tarsus,[which revolve around each other with the station between them] and lastly Selonia.

By 30,000 Before the Battle of Yavin (BBY), the Corellian system had became part of the Rakatan Infinite Empire. Corellinas built hyperspace cannons to link them with Coruscant and Duro and by 25,000 BBY Corellia perfected the modern hyperdrive.

In 312 BBY, their monarchy had been abolished by King Berethron e Solo, which in time fell to a Diktat. During the Emperor's reign the system answered to an Imperial Grand Moff, but local power stayed with the Diktat. After the Battle at Endor rival Grand Admirals Pitta and Grunger both claimed the system but destroyed each other in their war.

Corellia eventually came a member of the New Republic but by 16 After the Battle of Yavin (ABY), anti-New Republic sentiment caused the Corellian Insurrection purpotrated by Thrackan Sal-Solo and the Sacorrian Triad government. The crisis ended with Sal-Solo being taken away, but came back to power during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. In 40 ABY he acted as the planets Head of State during the second Corellian Insurrection, shoving the system into a war with the Galactic Alliance.
