Cyprus is the third biggest island in the Mediterranean Sea and due to its strategic position it has been controlled by many states over the millennia. Shortly after it gained independence from the British in the 20th century it was divided into two portions, although Northern Cyprus is seen as illegitimate by most other nations.

General Portrayal
Despite its real-world importance throughout history, it is portrayed relatively rarely in comics. The modern nation only gained its independence decades into the history of comics but even during events like this or the split with Nothern Cyprus, it was not commonly used as a political story setting in the way other countries often are. Most association with Cyprus tend to be an association with Ancient Greece or the Roman Empire (which factors into its relevance to Paul and Biblical comic adaptations).
