General Portrayal

The majority of instances where Pennsylvania appears in comics it is through it its most famous city of Philadelphia, with Pittsburgh serving as a distant second setting. Outside of these cities the state is not an especially common setting compared to other states but it is one of the more likely states to appear in historical comics based around the founding era of the United States.

• Pittsburgh: The second largest city in the state. In Marvel Comics (and likely comics generally), its most common association as a setting was in the New Universe line of the mid-80's where it was home to Star Brand and became central to the book when he accidentally blew the entire city up. At DC Comics the city (and state) are most frequently associated with Firestorm, the city is home to Vandermeer University where Professor Martin Stein works and Ronald Raymond attends.

Fictional Sub-Locations

• Invertica City: Founded by the Black Terror and his former sidekick Kid Terror, this city prides itself on having an extremely low crime rate. It appears in Terra Obscura and other works from America's Best Comics.
