The Reichenbach Falls are located in the Canton of Bern, in central Switzerland. They are fed by the River Aar, which runs through the Alps near the town of Meiringen. The falls are divided into the Upper and Lower Reichenbach Falls, with the Upper, at 90 metres or 300 feet, being one of the highest cataracts in the Alps. Altogether, the Falls have a drop of 250 metres or 820 feet.On May 4th, 1891, Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty had their climactic confrontation at the falls. Moriarty plunged to his death, while Holmes survived. The area at which they fought is still accessible today, though erosion has destroyed part of it.
