In order to save the people of San Diego, now at the bottom of the sea floor, Anton Geist is able to alter their physiology in order to allow them to breathe underwater. Cal Durham now serves as the mayor of Sub Diego. It is also the home of current Aquagirl, Lorena Marquez, who Aquaman takes in after her parents are killed in the Earthquake. Alonzo Malrey was a San Diego cop, but when part of it falls into the ocean he asks Anton Geist to turn him into an aquatic being in order to continue his work. The population consists of a mix of these altered humans and Atlantean refugees.
