After their defeat at the hands of the X-men, the Children of the Vault somehow retreated to an extra-dimensional place called the corridor, which sits in 'the space between dimensions'. Their home is a city called the Quitado, which faces a serious energy crisis, due to it's lack of efficient fuel to power the city's life-supporting functions. A solution was found in the form of a device called Angelfire, which harnesses the power of thirteen individuals with energy-producing abilities and locks them in eternal stasis, creating a permanent source of efficient energy. However, only twelve suitable individuals exist within the Quitado, one of whom is Luz, a free-spirited artist who just wants to be left alone.
