Overview

Yamapalu is one of the smallest populated islands in the western Pacific Ocean. It is part of the Federated States of Micronesia. It measures roughly 24 square miles, with an indigenous population of about 6,350, largely of Polynesian ancestry. Yamapalu was occupied by the Japanese in the early part of the 20th century, but liberated by the allies in the second World War after several heavily contested battles, where it was used as a naval communications center.

Today it is the destination to more than three thousand visitors at any one time, as Yamapalu has become a premiere vacation destination for surfers and scuba divers.

It is the only place in the world where the gallsaberry grows. The fruit tasted, especially after being cooked, exactly like chicken.
