Origin

The Hording Blade first belonged to Ori the Mad from Nidavellir. While the blade was still hot from the forge, he slayed a dragon. As the first soul the sword absorbed, it took on the hording personality of the dragon. However, it had no use for coin like the dragon, so instead it hoarded souls.

Carver

At some point, the sword ended up abandoned on Vanaheim. It found a new kindred spirit in Corporal Ellen Carver, a member of Roxxon's private military. While posted in Vanaheim, her entire platoon was wiped out by a giant bat monster. Carver was the final one standing when she heard the voice of the sword call out to her. It promised to help her kill the bat monster in exchange for her continuing to kill with the blade and satiate Ginnarr's hunger for souls.

Carver quickly grew weary of the promise she made to the blade. She met Achilles Fairchild, an Asgardian turned Midgard kingpin. He promised to disconnect Carver from the sword if she helps him establish his new criminal network. This was an empty promise though. He did not have the power to do.

Midnight Mission

Moon Knight and his Midnight Mission came into conflict with Fairchild's criminal network. Fairchild was dealing drugs made from fairy dust he called Glitter in Moon Knight's neighborhood. When Moon Knight started to challenge him, he changed the name to Moon Dust and framed the Midnight Mission. He sent Carver to use Ginnarr to slay their sentient office building, the House of Shadows, so they were vulnerable to a NYPD raid.

Vengeful, Moon Knight tried to go after Fairchild, who was too strong for him. He decided to meticulously take down his network. Part of this plan meant confronting Carver while she was alone. Moon Knight was stabbed by Ginnarr, causing his soul to be absorbed to a soul collecting pocket universe within the sword. There he came face to face with the soul of the dragon that controlled the sword. Moon Knight was not scared though. Ginnarr tried to take what belonged to Khonshu, and the Egyptian god ripped into the soulworld of the sword and put the dragon in service to Moon Knight.

With pieces of his criminal network stripped, the Midnight Mission made a concerted effort to take down Fairchild. Fairchild was scared of Moon Knight now that he had Ginnarr, so Fairchild ran away and mysteriously disappeared. With their name cleared and the Midnight Mission back to work, Moon Knight released the House of Shadows from the sword, welcoming his teammate back into the fold.

Mansion Ravenous

After Moon Knight was kidnapped and escaped, he returned to an empty Midnight Mission. His team had been targeted by an elder of the Mission's race called The Mansion Ravenous. Moon Knight armed himself with Ginnar and attempted to fight the Mansion.

Unfortunately, the Mansion was able to offer the spirit of the dragon within Ginnar a deal. Building it a new body out of wood with the sword stabbed in the middle of it, Ginnar agreed to become its new guard dog. With his new form he was able to breathe nails and screws instead of fire.

Moon Knight turned to Clea who helped him put together a new team of Midnight Sons. Blade weakened the wooden dragon with a chainsaw until it could be restrained with Ghost Rider's chains and Clea's energy whips, long enough for Daredevil to rip the sword out of him, rendering the wooden body inert.
