Masamune
The Masamune is a legendary sword in japanese mythology.
In every Final Fantasy their is an ultimate weapon of sorts. For many titles early in the series it was the Masamune, named after the legendary smith who created powerful blades, and its counterpart, somewhat weaker, the Muramasa, a series of tainted weapons powered by bloodshed. The Masamune is a katana with a long wave design on it as described in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, but in the realm of Final Fantasy VII it is simply a long, seven foot Katana, which Sephiroth alone can wield due to his increased strength. Coupled with Sephiroth's skill, it is enough to apparently slice through most other metals and concrete. Examples of this are the simulated battle between Sephiroth and Genesis Rhapsodos, in which the sword alone issued so much damage to a holographic Sister Ray it was enough to send the superweapon plummeting down, cut in its entirety by the single stroke, and during the Second Advent of Sephiroth, when he used it in his battle against Cloud Strife by slicing off pieces of the destroyed Shinra Building with ease to hurl against Cloud.
