When the dead originally began to rise in Atlanta, Georgia, Michonne found herself alone with no protection. She remembered that her neighbor's teenage son liked to collect bladed weapons, and took his samurai sword to kill the undead with. The boy had used some type of bladed weapon to kill Michonne's family's pet cat, but he had never admitted to it. Michonne, however, refused to believe that he was innocent of the crime. Over the years, Michonne's Blade has saved her life countless times. Being a fencer in high school, and subsequently college, she has honed her swordsmanship to effectively dispatch the living dead with little effort.
