The last model star destroyer built before the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Victory-Class came late in the clone wars and was meant for planetary defense. The Victory-Class became a support ship for larger Star Destroyers during the Imperial days and a command ship for Outer Rim territories where older equipment was more commonplace
