Soon afterwards, Dave and Dan did a series of self-published illustrated stories, which they sold on consignment in local book stores. This led to deal with the D.C. Comics imprint Piranha Press, where they spent the next three years creating BEAUTIFUL STORIES FOR UGLY CHILDREN, turning out a story a month and gaining positive media response from MOTHER JONES, MTV, and THE NATION. In its first year, BSFUC received five nominations for the Eisner Award. The Beautiful Stories stopped publishing in 1992 and Dan and Dave both turned to Hollywood. Dave wrote screenplays while Dan has become a top storyboard artist. His first Hollywood success was landing the position of Art Director on the Mel Gibson movie BRAVEHEART.
