Outside of writing Graphic Novels, Mariko Tamaki performed on stage  with a variety of performance troupes.  He current focus now is her writing career.  She has written the acclaimed book Skim, in which her cousin Jillian Tamaki illustrated. She also wrote the book Emiko Superstar for the failed DC imprint Minx, which are graphic novels targeted to teen-aged girls.
 
Other written works would be a couple of anthology books and articles in local magazines.
