Michael Lance "Mike" Wieringo was an Italian comic book artist best known for his work on DC's Flash and Marvel's Fantastic Four.

Early Career

Mike graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, USA. There he received a a degree in Fashion Illustration, but soon after broke into comics broke into comics as a penciler with the Millennium Publications series Pat Savage and Doc Savage: Doom Dynasty in 1991.

Wieringo broke into mainstream publisher DC Comics by doing the pencils for the 30-page Justice League International lead story in Justice League Quarterly #11 (Summer 1993).

Wieringo died of an aortic dissection at his home in Durham, North Carolina, at age 44. He was survived by his parents, Cecil and Shirley Dean Wieringo, and his brother Matt. When Mike passed away on August 12, 2007 his friends and family decided to keep his site up in his memory.

Marvel was shocked by the death of Mike, and ordered a special tribute issue to the memory of Mike Wieringo, Spider-Man Family issue 7, made by some of his closest colleagues and friends in the bussiness. Marvel also used advertisement-space in their comics through which they paid tribute to Mike. Besides this, the comics Tales Of TMNT issue 40 and Elephantmen issue 11 were dedicated to the memory of Mike Wieringo.
