Roger Stern born in September 17, 1950, in Noblesville, Indiana. He started his career as a comic book writer in the mid of the 70's on Marvel.

During his stay in the House of Ideas, he worked in the titles The Amazing Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, The Avengers and Captain America. He also worked as an editor in X-Men, Spider-Woman and Ghost Rider. It was in this period that he created one of Spider-Man's most memorable villains, Hobgoblin, as well as a couple of classic storylines like "Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut!" and "The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man", and Captain Marvel's second incarnation Monica Rambeau.

After he was fired from working in The Avengers in 1987 for creative issues with editor Mark Gruenwald, Stern went to DC where he worked in the Superman title. Along with a team of writers composed by Dan Jurgens, Louise Simonson, Jerry Ordway, and Karl Kesel, he helped in the creation of the famous Death of Superman story arc.
