He was born on May 1st 1956 in Ithaca, New York. He is a fan of soccer & owns two dogs.
Little known to most is that he is actually colorblind which is why it is interesting that the titles of many of his books are the names of colors. IE Spider-Man: Blue, Daredevil: Yellow, Captain America: White and Hulk: Gray. He is famously known for his collaborations with Jeph Loeb working on books such as :

- Batman : Haunted Knight
- Batman : The Long Halloween
- Catwoman : When in Rome
His art was also featured on the popular television series, Heroes.
When Sale worked for Image he was assigned to Deathblow and asked to mimic the style in Sin City by Frank Miller.
