Origin

Centuries ago Jade's Mage Council placed restrictions on "wild magic" experimentation and research due to how reckless and dangerous it was. As a result, the wild magi ancestors exiled themselves from Jade-realm to escape the Council's restrictions. They settled the uncharted Astral Rifts surrounding Jade-realm where they became isolationist and hostile to outsiders, especially people from Jade. They believe such outsiders are out to plunder their territories. The entire wild magi society and significant characters are a homage to J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels.

Creation

The Wild Magi were created by Gold Digger artist/writer/creator Fred Perry. They first appear in Gold Digger #138.

Team Evolution

Wild Magi society is centered around their sole remaining bastion of culture, the Hostwarg Citadel, with minor homesteads spread around. Sitting atop a huge mana vault, Hostwarg is an educational center for young wild magi and is currently run by a Master Dunbel. The wild magi are further divided into 5 clans, each led by a "Rift Lord". When the clans work together to take new territory, they keep track of each clan's victories for dividing up "spoil scores" afterwards. Each clan maintains its own mobile siege tower and teams of rangers and rift-riders. So far only 2 clans have been named: House Griffend and House Puhfulle.

Major Story Arcs

The wild magi play a major role in the current war between Dreadwing and Ancient Gina's allies in Jade realm. Dreadwing is using them as method of distracting and weakening Jade's defenders, Those same defenders wish to convince the wild magi to at least stay neutral and allow the people from Jade free passage through their territory as they search for Dreadwing's home realm of Xanadu. Four of the five clans participated in the initial major battle between Dreadwing and Jade, and took significant damage.
