The Jedi Covenant was formed in the wake of the Great Sith War started by Exar Kun. The Jedi felt that if Exar kun was killed when he was showing signs during his training they would have prevented the entire War. The Covenant is deadicated to eradicating the Sith and their artifacts and admit to actually hating the Sith, which goes against the Jedi Code.
