House Bracken is an ancient Noble House of the Riverlands, and loyal Bannerman to House Tully. Located along the banks of the Red Fork, on the Triton River, the Bracken Family has been in a long-standing feud with the other noble family at the Triton's Red Fork, House Blackwood.

The conflict between the two noble houses originated back to the Age of Heroes, when the Riverlands was an independent kingdom, although the story varies depending on which noble family is telling it. According to the Brackens, they had been Kings of Red Fork, until the Blackwoods (who had been their vassals)seized their kingdom. Meanwhile, the Blackwoods have stated that the Brackens were merely petty lords of horse breeders, that attempted to overthrow their family with hired sell swords.

As the years passed, events occurred that only deepened the feud between the two noble houses. Although both noble families are among the First Men, and fought against the Andal invasion, following the conflict House Bracken converted to the Faith of the Seven. This caused House Blackwood to believe the Brackens have poisoned their weirwood tree at Raventree Hall.
