Drawn by Leo Baxendale, The Bash Street Kids first appeared in issue 604 of The Beano in 1954 under the title When the Bell Rings! which only featured Danny and Toots along with dozens of other unruly children.
The strip began to focus on the pupils of class IIB and their long suffering teacher and 2 years after its debut it was renamed The Bash Street Kids. In 1962 David Sutherland took over from Baxendale and continues to draw the strip to this day.
