History

Original Continuity: New Earth

The culture of Colu and its natives the green skinned Coluans has changed over the years. Exploration of Coluan culture has been prominent in both the the continuities of the Legion of Super-Heroes and L.E.G.I.O.N. They are a Technocracy government and the vast robotic systems of the world of Colu play a huge everyday part of the natives lives adding to a strong fortified security of the planet. Coluans have very long life spans with the vast majority of the population living for centuries. This is due to all the genetic adaptions they have performed over time significantly improving various mental aptitudes and biological and cybernetic manipulations to the population over generations. The average denizen has a "level 8" intellect far above many other cultures in the United Planets and beyond.

Earth One:

On New Earth, Colu was known to its inhabitants as Yod. The most significant moment in the planet's history was when Vril Dox, the adopted son of Brainiac liberated the planet from the Computer Tyrants. These computers where originally created by the Coluans to take care of administrating the planets populations affairs. However unforeseen in their programing the Computer Tyrants took over of the populace and made them the rulers of Colu. Any form of resistance was dealt with harshly with a massive death toll until the Coluans bent to their will. They were than placed on a central mind hive and cybernetic implants would make the Coluans obedient slave to the Computer Tyrants. Until the fate of the planet changed once Brainiac defeated them and returned Colu back tom the people.

Its populace now with a newfound hunger for knowledge and the merging of organics and cybernetics became common. Robots still play an important part in security of the planet. Colu's intelligence has stagnated over a period of 1000 years caused by the actions of Brainiac, Vril Dox and Brainiac 5 (of Earth 247). This is due to a reliance on theoretical research rather than practical experimentation. On Earth- 247 the people connect in sleep through a network to communicate.

Earth Prime:

On Earth Prime we discover that Colu has found a way to combat its over-population crisis. It has shrunk itself using the same technology Brainiac used to shrink Kandor and his other bottle cities. It is known to the universe as 'The Bottle Planet of Colu. During this time Colu's population is drained of its intelligence. An act the Legionnaire Brainiac 5 considers genocide.

Creation

Clouns first appeared in DC Comics Superman Action Comics #242, The Super-Duel In Space, July 1958. They were created by Al Plastino and Mort Weisinger.

Legion of Super-Heroes Animated Series: Kid's WB!

In the Legion of Super-Heroes Animated Series created by Warner Bros. Animation; Kid's WB! in 2006 Colu was depicted as a completely robotic species that shared knowledge once a year during the 'alignment'. They all connect as part of a hive mind which Brainiac 5 had taken himself out of. In the final story of the series 'Dark Victory', Brainiac 5 uses the technology of Brainiac 1 to turn the whole planet into binary data. He used its inhabitants to make his body bigger as they all connected into one superstructure.

Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century:

The Coluans also appeared in the ongoing comic book series published by D.C Comics with conjunction with the Kid's WB! to use the televised series into comic format. Written by Alexander Serra and coming out in print in February of 2008.

The issue tells the story of Brainy of the Legion of Super-Heroes finding out a family secret, that his ancestor is the original arch enemy of Superman, Brainiac. Trying to make up for his great-great-grandfather's crimes he used a Time Bubble to take both himself and Superman to his planet of Colu's past. An unforeseen detour to the Phantom Zone almost ends both they're lives. With the help of the Legionnaires Triplicate Girl, Bouncing Boy, and Sun Boy they return to the Legions current timeline.

Notable Coluans

Brainiac 5: Member of the Legion Of Super-Heroes from the 31st century. He is perhaps the most influential and independent member of the Coloun race with an intellect reaching 12th level.

Vril Dox: Leader of the L.E.G.I.O.N and a ruthless manipulator for his vision of a utopian future.

Indigo: One time member of the Outsiders from the 21st century. She eventually would turn into an agent of the Computer Tyrants of Colu and be destroyed.

Pulsar Stargrave: The megalomaniac villain of the 31st century who would impersonate himself as the father of Brainiac 5 and the original Brainiac. He had incredible powers beyond his Coluan intellect due to the exposure to the energies of a star.

Brainiac: The original holder of the title who was an arch enemy of Superman in the 21st century.

Brainiac's Daughter: Would be daughter of Brainiac in the 21st century. She appeared in the series by Dc Comics Kingdom Comes.
