The Council of Eight were the top ranked warriors of the New Gods of New Genesis and served as the lieutenants of Highfather Izaya. During Highfathers war with Apokolips, it was discovered that The Source had been tampered with by mortals from one of the realities of the Multiverse. With Metron, they managed to determine that one of the Spectrum Warriors had managed to bypass the Source Wall that was a feat that the New Gods had long attempted but always failed in accomplishing. As a result, it was deemed that the actions of the various Lanterns that harnessed the Emotional Spectrum were a threat against creation as they knew not about the power they were wielding. In addition, Izaya sought to use the light that they had harnessed to wield the power of the Life Equation to use it to defeat Darkseid once and for all. As a result, he commanded the Council of Eight to capture one of each power ring whilst Hyalt constructed a device to harness their power into the White Light of Life. Each of the New Gods succeeded in their task and Highfather attempted to use the device to elevate the mortals of the Prime Earth universe into god-like beings to serve in the armies of New Genesis against Apokolips. The attempt failed and Izaya sought out the white ring whilst he commanded the Council of Eight to remove the threat posed by the various Lantern Corps as he deemed them a danger to all of creation.
