Creation

The Dryads made their first appearance in Mighty Comics 22-Secret of the Sinister Sorcerers, March 1961. They were created by the team of Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky.

History

The native Dryads are silicon-based rock-like humanoids from the planet Dryad. When humanity colonized the supposedly empty planet, it was discovered that the rocks were actually sentient beings, however the Dryads soon made friends with the colonizers. Later humans and native Dryads lived on the planet peacefully.

The Dryad, Strata, was a founding member of the interstellar peace keeping force known as L.E.G.I.O.N. and has has served as Vril Dox's second in command for years. The team also recruited another Dryad, Marv, and the two eventually married and had a child named Rocky.

It was also discovered that a second race of Dryads lived deep underground, both races living without knowing of the other. Brik of the Green Lantern Corps was recruited by Hal Jordan, choosing to leave her life as a rock behind in order to pursue a live of adventure.

In the 30th Century the planet Dryad was facing the destruction and was evacuated by the Legion of Super-Heroes. Several human youths from the planet were led to believe that the Legion was to blame by the Dark Man. After gave them powers the five humans and the last dryad alive, Blok , teamed up as the League of Super-Assassins and fought the Legionnaires. However they were defeated and Blok realized the truth about his home. He would later join the Legion.

Notable Dryads

Blok: member of the Legion of Super-Heroes from the 30-31st century alas one of the lass know survivors of Dryad itself. Blok escaped before the planets natural evolution caught up with its self destruction.

Garv: A member of the 30th century intergalactic force known as L.E.G.I.O.N. He is also the life partner of Strata.

Starta: A former enslaved member of her race she spent most of life under the Dominators control. She along with fellow slave Vril Dox founded L.E.G.I.O.N and took charge of her life once freed.
