Origin

The Children of the Light, often referred to within the organization simply as the "Children" and by others, often disparagingly, as "Whitecloaks", were first formed during the War of the Hundred Years. They began as a group of preachers who sought to expose Darkfriends. They became increasingly militarized, eventually becoming a fully-fledged army. They made gains in power with every loss suffered by the Aes Sedai, all of whom they believe to be Darkfriends. Eventually they gained a foothold in the country of Amadicia, establishing a stronghold in the capital of Amador and becoming the rulers of the country in all but name. Their influence has been largely restricted to Amadecia for some time, despite their best efforts at expansion.

Creation

The Children were created by Robert Jordan for his book series The Wheel of Time, making their first appearance in the first book of the series, The Eye of the World. They made their first appearance in comics in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World #10, written by Jordan and Chuck Dixon and illustrated by Andie Tong.

Major Story Arcs

The Eye of the World

A group of Children encounter Perrin Aybara, Egwene al'Vere and Elyas Machera, who are travelling to Caemlyn. They engage in a fight with the group, which results in the death of one of the wolves travelling with Perrin, Egwene and Elyas. This sends Perrin into a rage, causing him to kill two of the Whitecloaks in retribution. They are then taken captive by the Whitecloaks and Perrin is eventually sentenced to death for his crime. The sentence is preempted by an attack on the Whitecloak camp by Moiraine Damodred, al'Lan Mandragoran and Nynaeve al'Meara. This attack results in the destruction of much of the Whitecloaks' camp, and they were left in disarray, allowing Perrin and Egwene to escape.
